A FOOLISH EXPRESSION

One of the most idle expressions in regard to a dead parent was told me by Fate Jones, who said that a long time ago an old man of the name of Haw lived on East Sugar Loaf Creek who had a son named John. One cold winter the old man sickened and died on the creek near George Woods Mill. At the time of his death the weather was bitter cold and a thick crust was frozen on the surface of the ground and the men who dug the grave were compelled to build a fire of logs on the spot where the grave was to be dug to thaw the ground In order to dig the grave. John Haw who was present while the men were putting the logs together remarked that "Paw picked on the coldest weather he could to die.
